River Enviro News

Tuesday at a town meeting in Chenango Bridge.

By Tom Wilber • Press & Sun-Bulletin • July 17, 2008

Presenters included Mike Brownell, of the Susquehanna River Basin Commission,

Brownell said many gas wells are planned for headwater areas, away from main river stems. Drawing from small streams in the volumes necessary for horizontal drilling is not allowed. That means tankers will have to truck water to and from other places, significantly increasing truck traffic in rural areas.

"The water requirements are so much different (for horizontal drilling), it has caught us a little bit off guard," he said.
