HISTORIC SUSQUEHANNA RIVER SOJOURN
2012 Endless Mountains Heritage Trip
397th ANNIVERSARY OF ÉTIENNE BRULÉ’S
200th Aniversary of Bradford County
May 18-19-20 2012
A flotilla of canoes and kayaks will be paddling on a three-day trip from Sayre to Friedenshutten Wyaluusing Township. The group will be Boy Scout Troops from the area, plus individuals from New York State and from all over Pennsylvania. The group will leave Friday May 18 th at 1:00 p.m. from Sayre and will paddle to Hornbrook County Park above Towanda and camp there that evening. We will provide breakfast early on Saturday morning.
Saturday’s lunch stop will be Wysox Riverfront Park. The group will leave Wysox about 2 p.m. and paddle to French Azilum and set up camp for Saturday night. The French Azilum United Methodist Church Women will provide dinner for the group. After a tour of French Azilum, the group will settle in for an evening campfire of songs and story telling.
Sunday the group will have another breakfast and paddle the last 10 miles to Friedenshutten (river left at Sugar Run).
The trip is being organized by Endless Mountain Outfitters, Inc.. EMO owner David Buck says they are now taking reservations. Previous year’s trip had over 60 paddlers on the river. The trip is set up so that people can join us for the entire journey or any part. We invite people to come join us at French Azilum for the dinner and campfire. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent. Reservations are required for any part of the trip, and can be made by calling (570) 746-9140 or by e-mail to kayaks@ptd.net.
Who was Étienne Brulé, and why should we remember him? You’ll hear that tale at campfire story telling time!
